Any dog can be happily trained when you do your research. Training your dog can be simple to do, if you use the following steps.

When crate training an indoor dog or puppy, you may try some tricks. If the dog doesn’t want to get in the crate try putting a chew toy in it and close the gate when they’re not there. Temptation wins with this exercise; your dog will be eager to enter the crate when a treat is waiting for him. Praise your dog once he gets into the crate.

A healthy diet is important to the health and well-being of your dog. It is entirely up to you to provide a good diet for your pet. This is not just bad for the dog’s health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. Simply enhancing a dog’s diet can make a big difference in its receptiveness to training.

Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. Your dog will get bored and antsy if you spend too much time on one thing. Keep sessions to a minimum at first. Target 10 minute sessions for increased success.

Make sure training has an element of fun incorporated into it. You can build a strong bond with dog by playing with the dog, and that in turn causes positive reactions during training. While training is fun in itself, take some time to just play for enjoyment each day.

Use the same hand signal or voice command to get your dog’s attention. First, say his name, then the command. Secure the dog’s attention and then state what you wish him to do. Dogs will respond instantly when their name is called if they know they are going to be rewarded.

Don’t bog your puppy down with more information than he can process. Puppies have short attention spans and they cannot focus too much, so have shorter sessions and try to be positive during them every time. If you try to do too much too fast, he will associated it as a negative experience and will resist in the future.

Teach your puppy to wear a collar while playing before you train him to use a leash. By making your puppy comfortable to wearing a leash, he will be more apt to keep it on.

Never, ever reward your dog for bad behavior so that you can quickly stop it. This method will only result in the dog learning to do what it pleases. An example would be giving the dog a treat ever time it starts to bark.

What is your dog’s diet like? Dogs are similar to children in the way that their diet can play a major part in their behaviors. Your dog’s diet should be adapted to its species and its age so your dog is full of energy. Ask your vet to recommend the appropriate diet for your dog’s age, breed and activity level.

As discussed in this guide, having a healthy and happy dog is not hard to have. To train your dog, you must show him love and affection. Keep the tips in this article in mind and you’ll have a great dog in no time.

Lots of dogs go to shelters simply because their owners become disappointed in them, though this does not need to be the case.
