If you are contemplating getting one or if you already have one, that is great. You will have a better relationship with your dog if he is trained properly. They’ll be on their best behavior at all times. Read on for some tips to better the relationship between you and your dog.

Your dog will get used to its crate if it can feel at home in it. During meal time, place their food in the crate while allowing the door to remain open as they eat. They’ll build a positive view of the crate this way.

Whenever you’re rewarding your dog for good behavior, make sure you stay calm and in control. If your dog follows a training command properly, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. You may feel great about it, but you don’t want to make the pup feel over-excited. Maintain a calm atmosphere and provide an appropriate reward.

A number of repetitions will be necessary before your dog will be able to master a new command. You may need to repeat the command more than 20 or 30 times. Try to maintain as much patience as possible, for the sake of your dog.

It’s important to avoid inadvertently encouraging inappropriate behavior if you want your dog to learn. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. Don’t scratch the dogs back, give it a snack or reward it in any way if it jumps, barks or does anything you don’t approve of.

When approaching a dog you’ve never met, approach them slowly and offer them the back of a hand to smell. Doing so builds up trust with the dog. Once a dog recognizes your particular scent, he will be unafraid and willing to obey.

Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Use his name frequently, and make clear that you want him to respond by coming to you when you call his name. Usually this simple command “come” and their name, are what they learn first. It’s important that the time spent with your puppy is quality time. Spend your time playing with your puppy. This way he will get to know you quicker and will begin to trust you faster. This will help them become more receptive to harder training later.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you’ll need to be firm. Avoid yelling at your dog. It is important to be firm when issuing a reprimand and someone who adores them otherwise. This will help develop a strong bond during your training session.

Keep your dog’s leash loose when training him. Dogs love exploring new land whenever they get the chance to go walking. Because they are so eager, they will probably strain the leash. The savvy owner will discourage this behavior, instead encouraging his or her pet to walk with some slack in the leash.

Hopefully, you’ve read the tips listed here and learned a thing or two when it comes to having a good owner/pet relationship. Use whatever information that will work for your circumstances. You love your dog, but it certainly helps to have a well-behaved pet. Training is essential to success! It is important that your dog be well trained. Good luck!

A cute little dog or puppy can creep into the heart and life of many people.
