Dogs can easily make their way into your heart. Whether you are already an owner or thinking about getting a pup, congrats! To have a great relationship with your pet, training is very important. The dog will realize what it must do, and you are sure to have greater confidence in their abilities, no matter where you are. Continue reading to gain great insights into developing a strong bond with your pet.
If you want to teach your pet to use a crate, first try these simple tricks. If your puppy seems reluctant about entering the crate, place a chew toy inside and close the door to the kennel. If a dog sees something in the crate that they want, they will desire to enter it. Once they go in the crate, praise them so that they know they did well.
When crate training your new puppy, take it in small manageable steps so the animal can become accustomed to the changes easily. Once your dog is accustomed to being in the crate, try closing the door and giving your pet a treat through the wire. Begin with small intervals, and work your way up to longer times. If your puppy gets upset, then you may need to slow down and have more patience with them.
The best way to train your dog is to reward it when it behaves properly. You must always provide treats in a wise and timely fashion. By giving treats at the proper time, you’ll ensure that your dog understands which behavior it’s being rewarded for.
Training Sessions
Your training sessions must be long enough for your dog to learn the desired behavior but no so long that he becomes bored. Begin by implementing brief training sessions, then make each session progressively longer. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.
You need to establish predictable feeding practices with any dog. Train your dog to understand that the food bowl will be removed 10-15 minutes after you have fed him. This will help get him on a schedule. Your dog will learn to eat in a few minutes instead of going back to the food bowl all day long.
Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. You can have your dog sit or roll over. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog’s head and move it around it’s face to the other side. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. Say “roll over” as you perform the maneuver. It may take some time for your dog to perfect the trick, but it’s a popular move and one that is sure to impress others.
To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. Sticking to a schedule will teach your dog how to control himself until his next scheduled potty break.
Hopefully, you have read a tip or two that will help you with your owner/pet relationship. Take what you need and leave the rest. You love your dog, but it certainly helps to have a well-behaved pet. Training is the key to success! The importance of having a trained dog simply cannot be overstated. Congratulations on your new furry friend.
