If Your Having A Difficult Time Training Your Dog, Try These Suggestions

Training your dog often ends up looking more akin to human training. This is because, the dog’s owner must first be able to learn the proper way to train an animal. People are not born knowing how to train a dog and need to first learn if they really desire to do so. Here you will find helpful assistance.

It is of utmost importance that you reward your dog consistently and correctly while training. Treats, toys and praise have to be given in the right doses and at the correct times. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

Try to see things from your dog’s eyes. Sometimes, training will get frustrating, but you will need to have patience. Instead of being frustrated, try to think like your dog. Looking at the world through their eyes could give you new insights about training them.

Do not allow your pet to become complacent in his training. Establish a clear set of rules and stick with it at all times. Many owners believe that once training is over, the dog will be set for life. Dogs, though, are like people in the way they fall into habits. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

Keep treats on hand to reward your pet for doing good. The dog has to lay down first. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. Make sure you are patient because this is likely to take several attempts. However, your dog will eventually learn this command.

Shock Collars

Don’t waste your money on expensive training products, such as shock collars. Most of the time these don’t function as they should and can cost quite a bit of money. Plus, using shock collars could discourage your dog in having good behavior. This kind of approach often ends in disaster.

Let any dog you approach sniff your hand first so he can smell you. As you do this, you give the dog an opportunity to acclimate to your scent and become used to your presence. When the dog knows your scent, he is better able to trust you and follow given commands.

To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. By establishing a regular potty-time every day, you will get your dog in the habit of doing his business at the same time daily. Sticking to a schedule will teach your dog how to control himself until his next scheduled potty break.

Remember to exercise patience whenever training your dog. This will reduce anger, stress and tension when you train your dog. Your pet wants you to be happy, but he or she cannot always understand the human language.

Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. If you try to focus for a long period of time on one command, your dog will show signs of boredom and begin to get antsy. Only spend 10 minutes during the first couple of sessions.

Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.
