When you train a dog properly, you create a home full of peace for you and the dog. Give some of the following tips a shot. Some things you learn here might make living with your dog a bit easier.
Timing is critical during canine training; you need to take the time training, but don’t overdo it. Start out with a small training session and up the time every day. End the session as soon as your dog’s attention begins to stray.
It is important that you also train your dog at mealtime with a specific routine. Training your dog to expect that when fed, once or twice a day, you will be removing the food bowl in 10-15 minutes, will lay down a feeding schedule that your dog will adhere to. Doing so will encourage your pooch to eat efficiently.
Keep your dog on a healthy diet. A poor diet will negatively affect your dog’s skin, eyes, muscles, bones and joints. This is not just bad for the dog’s health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.
Always ensure your dog is getting enough exercise. Dogs require mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Not to mention that a bored dog is going to be more stubborn during training. Your dog needs proper exercise to function to his highest potential. Go for long walks and runs with your dog.
Consistency is critical for crate training to succeed. When your puppy gets out of its crate he will need to relieve himself. Eventually, they will wait until it’s the right time to go to the bathroom.
When potty training your pup, remember that whatever he eats must come out. In order to regulate your dog’s toileting habits, you should feed him a good quality food at the same times each day. That way, you will know when the dog likely needs to go out and can prevent accidents.
Be consistent with your dog training to make sure your animal stays obedient to the rules it has been learning. A lot of owners will train their dogs once and not conduct any refreshers. But dogs can become complacent just like their human counterparts. This shows that you need to do periodic refreshers so that your dog continues to follow the rules.
Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Next, hold the treat close to the floor near its head, and bring it up over the dog’s head as you place it on the other side. He will follow the treat by rolling over. As he is rolling over say, “roll over” and praise them immediately when they do. It will take some work, but keep on trying!
Pick a recognizable phrase to verbalize to your puppy during house training. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.
It doesn’t matter if your dog is three or thirteen. There is always hope for him if you are willing to train him. Remember to be patient when using these tips. With any luck, your relationship with your dog will now be happier than it has ever been.
